Rebates

Available Energy Rebates

An overview of Australian renewable energy and electric vehicle incentives

Rebates

Rebates significantly lower the up-front cost of solar panels, batteries and EV chargers, making clean technologies more accessible and accelerating their uptake. To ensure quality, safety and compliance with industry standards, most programs require installation by an SAA-accredited installer.

Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (STCs)

  • Runs through to 2030 and decreases each calendar year
  • Provides an upfront discount on approved small-scale solar, wind or hydro via tradable certificates
  • Installations must be carried out by an SAA-accredited installer

Cheaper Home Batteries Program (CHBP)

  • Effective from 1 July 2025
  • Offers ~30 % off eligible 5–100 kWh home batteries (first 50 kWh only) via extra STCs
  • Must be installed by an SAA-accredited battery installer

Solar Homes Program

  • Up to $1 400 rebate on rooftop solar PV
  • Matching interest-free loan for the same amount
  • Hot-water system rebates up to $1 000

WA Residential Battery Scheme

  • Effective from 16 July 2025
  • Rebates of $5,000 (Synergy) or $7,500 (Horizon) on 10kWh battery
  • Loans at 0% interest, up to $10,000, 10-year term

  • Required to connect battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP)

Peak Demand Reduction Scheme

  • Larger rebates for connecting a household battery to a Virtual Power Plant
  • Households can access the Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program for bigger installation savings (NSW battery incentive suspended)

  • The scheme is expected to save NSW households and businesses ~$1.2 billion on energy bills by 2040
